Things to Do in Southwark

Southwark is a big town with plenty to explore, take pictures of, or travel back home with as souvenirs. Our minibus hire buses are all serviced, insured and safe for driving. Alternatively, we can provide a driver on request to be your chauffeur during your stay in Southwark.

A Trip to the Docks

Just a stone’s throw away from the London Bridge is the dock that holds the HMS Belfast. This is the last of the cruise ships used by the British Royal Navy in past battle expeditions. This single ship has survived one World War and even commissioned in the Far East to help allied countries in war. After a long history of war, HMS Belfast was decommissioned and today basks at the shores of the River Thames.

The Imperial War Museum

The guards at the HMS Belfast dock may be enthusiastic in their narrations, but the Imperial War Museum will give more vivid accounts of the post British Wars. Construction and completion of the building happened in early 19th century, in London, but later relocated to Lambeth. This shift saw a number of renovations being made including revising the exhibition collection to now focus on the World War II stories. Therefore, you can learn more about the cruise battle ships used in the war as well as all the heroes who sacrificed their lives for a better Britain.

The London Eye

If you are in Southwark for just a few days, then be sure to visit the London Eye. It’s the only way to cover as many attractions in London with actually visiting them. The London Eye was officially opened in 2000 to celebrate the new millennium, featuring large capsule-like compartments made of glass that serve as watching points. The glass compartments revolve giving you a 360-degree view of London’s Panorama. The London Eye is the largest attraction in London because you can see the Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast, the Cathedrals and any other notable landmark miles away. So make your reservation early to escape the long queues.

The Florence Nightingale Museum

You have heard tales of this great female reformist who doubles as the pioneer of modern nursing. This museum houses memorabilia dedicated to Nightingale’s life; letters she wrote, portraits she took, and poems dedicated to her including the ‘Lady with the Lamp’. The story of Florence Nightingale will give you a firsthand experience at how gender inequality threatened to maim the female voice, but Florence rose above it all.
